Simon was previously Director of the Museum of London and Curator of Historic Royal Palaces, responsible for Kensington Palace, the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace among other national treasures. He is the author of many acclaimed books including his most recent, The Building of England.
He divides his time between homes in London and East Anglia, where he and his wife are raising their two children.
